So, I’m glad I took that small window of good #weather to #camp on top of #MatchlessMountain because the weather this morning was overcast with rain here and there… I was pretty sore this morning when I woke up and had some major #blisters on my feet from making my way back down the #mountain… I just doubled up on my socks and dealt with the pain…
There was my home last night… Right on the tippy top of that mountain… The highest peak…
Right next to that high flat peak, If you look at the very top flat peak and follow it down to the tree line to your left… That is where I camped last night… Just below that very top flat peak… I asked the guys if they saw smoke last night but they didn’t… which was very disappointing to me…
There’s #ParkConeMountain…. Looking as beautiful as ever… I like to reminisce my struggles to the top as I stand and stare at these mountains… I find it like meditating and a reminder of what I have learned at the top of these mighty monsters…
I was working at 2pm today… Thank god I didn’t have to work in the morning… It took me quite awhile to get myself together today… I was sore but was feeling like I was reborn still… The pain is just a pleasant reminder of the great journey and all that came with it… These journeys make you feel so connected to everything after… No matter what dilemmas you are faced with, when you feel this connected #spiritually, nothing can really shake you…
There’s the meeting of the minds up above… These three are essentially the #chefs here…. Dave to your left works mornings and lunches… and Billy, who has his back to us, works nights… Jason, who is sitting on the right, pretty much picks up the slack… Filling in where needed but he mostly works breakfast and lunches… Jason is that type of guy who just does what he is told, with no fuss… A real team player who you can rely on…
The other two are firecrackers, with huge personalities that you find kind of intimidating at first… But if you are an o.k. person and they like you, they pretty much warm up to you… I just wish they would show the side I see of them to everyone… But people have reasons for putting up their walls… I had quite a few of my own, ready to protect me in certain situations… But I find the walls we build hurt us more than protect us… It may be hard but be giving and kind to everyone you can and then put up the wall when they over step their boundaries, which some will trust me… You may get hurt more but at least everyone sees you for what you are and you don’t have this barrier that is so hard to get by…
I also realize I am me and they are who they are… We all live and learn… We all have our own journeys… I found out that Billy is quite the hiker himself and has actually climbed to the top of #MountWhitney in #California… That mountain is considered the highest mountain in the west… It took him three days to hike and now he has inspired me to hike that same mountain sometime in my life…
I wouldn’t have gotten this out of him if I didn’t get to know him… Now he has inspired someone to do the same… I just feel we should focus on trying to enrich others lives instead of blocking them from coming in… It’s a dangerous life but I would rather die than live it behind a wall… That’s not living to me… They can take away your lives folks, but they can’t take away your freedom!!!!
These were some shots of #Matchless I took from inside #TheNuggetCafe… Beautiful isn’t it? All I did was think all night about that trip… I found myself wishing it wasn’t over… Wanting to stay up there for a week or more…
But I am certainly content on staying here and working… I feel lucky to just get to wake up to this scenery every morning… Best decision I ever made, or was forced into really, was coming to #TheColoradoDreamRanch… Because there is a lot behind that fantastical nomenclature… For it does feel like a dream up here… For nothing this beautiful could be real or at least that’s what I thought before I arrived here… Goodnight…
