Updating the Millennium Falcon for the Desert Heat… 03/25/16

O.k… So #TheMillenniumFalcon is sporting a new #EntertainmentSystem but is extremely unprepared for the 120 degree/plus #DesertHeat… Craig the Bartender told me there is no way my #AirConditioner can handle a summer in #DeathValley… Considering he has lived here for quite awhile and he refuses to live in #StovePipeWellsVillage due to the heat, I’m going to go with his advice… Even though he is a #TrumpSupporter… lol!

Craig actually #camps his #RV in a town 30 minutes from here called #Beatty,Nevada… He makes the half hour drive just so he can be at a higher elevation where it doesn’t get as hot… That’s saying a lot considering he can stay at #StovepipeWells practically for free! But I guess the 10 to 15 degrees difference is worth the money and trip… It scares me that someone will go to such lengths to just avoid heat… Exactly why I am going to waste no time getting #TheFalcon ready for the #HotWeather…

Now if you look at the Millennium Falcon above you will see these white caps on the roof… Those are my #RoofVents and both of them are broken… Not a good thing to have broken when heat is coming because the white caps reflect the heat so the sun doesn’t shine onto the actual vents, creating a greenhouse effect inside…

Here’s a picture of a vent from the inside… Here I have already put the new cap on this one… The caps make it possible for you to drive with your vents open, blocking any wind that will blow the vent covers off… They also give you the ability to keep the vents  open while it’s raining and it also keeps bugs from crawling into your vehicle… I broke one of the caps myself by accident and the other was broken when I bought #OldMillie here…

So, I ordered some from #Amazon and put them on… I also took some #ReflectiveTarp and covered the caps to reflect any more light that may contribute to warming up the inside…

Now, not only did I put reflective tarp on my vent caps but I went around the inside of the Millennium Falcon and covered all of her #windows with reflective tarp so when the sun is shining on my windows, no light gets in… This created quite the dark little den but it’s way better than the inside of your #RV heating up to 130 degrees or hotter, due to the greenhouse effect…

But I also had another problem that I wanted to address without spending too much money… and that’s another cooling type unit that will take the pressure off of my single rooftop #AC unit, which is sure to burn out trying to tackle the challenging task alone… I was going to get another AC unit but it seemed frivolous if I only used it for the months I worked here… And also, where am I going to put the AC unit when I’m finished?

Then I stumbled upon a technology I had no idea about… It’s called the #SwampCooler… She kind of looks like #R2D2 doesn’t she? The swamp cooler is a device used for extreme heat in #DryClimates like the #desert… It won’t work with any type of humidity in the air…

How it works is you fill it up with water… The swamp cooler takes that water and sprinkles it over her fan which is blowing…. The fan then sprays the moisture into the air… What happens to moisture in dry heat is it cools down because the water naturally cools due to the fan and continues to cool down in the air because there is no hot humid moisture to warm it up… It’s basically the same concept as the little sprayers you will see outside of establishments in the extreme dry heat… You walk under the sprayers and the water cools you down because it’s cooler than the air and the dry heat can’t warm it up fast enough before it evaporates… I know, it’s crazy isn’t it but it’s proven science… and boy does it work…

The swamp cooler basically brings dry heat temperature down 20 to 30 degrees… I figure I could run the swamp cooler all day and run my AC unit when I’m home… So the swamp cooler keeps my air 20 degrees cooler than outside making it easier for my AC unit to cool down the area to a comfortable living space… Now, it’s not perfect and you are still going to sweat when it’s 125 degrees out but it’s a hell of a lot better than trying to fend off and live in such heat… And it’s also better than wasting my money on another AC unit… Whenever I am in dry heat I can pull out my swamp cooler, which is on wheels, and slide it where ever I want it while traveling…

The only set back is you have to keep the water tank full and it will spill all over your carpet if knocked over or tilted to drastically… But other than that, it was the best $170 dollars I have spent… It also acts as a regular fan and a humidifier if want…

So, with the Millennium Falcon all blacked out, with new roof covers and a swamp cooler… I was ready to battle the #summer in #DeathValley… I took the primitive cheap approach but the upgrades I made will help astronomically… Oh how I dread the coming test but love the challenge…

Goodnight…
