Well folks, this is the only picture I got to take today… I believe I took this in the morning hours… I worked hard until 8pm last night at #TheNuggetCafe… It was busy and there were two #waiters on… I was working with a guy named Mike… He seems like a wandering #soul, trying to find his purpose in life… I feel bad for him because I know how it feels to be in that constant mystery called life… We either ignore it, justify it or just silently adopt it, trying to make it through everyday… He seems like a great guy and i heard him playing the guitar and singing one morning… He has a beautiful voice and if he keeps doing what he loves, he will find his own truth…
It’s funny how your own truth is a lot different than what you thought it would be… Ever since I was 9 years old, I knew I loved the theatre and movies… I wanted to be an actor then and apart of me still does… It’s just when I got older, I realized there was a lot more to me than playing roles… I’m not knocking it because it is one of the hardest and riskiest occupations to go after… Look at me… Everyone in my home town was convinced I would become a famous actor one day… Here I am in the middle of nowhere working for peanuts… But I will tell you this, I would have it no other way because what I know now, I may have never connected with if I did suddenly make it… I’m not saying I wish I hadn’t done some things different… but then again if I did one of those things different, I may not be here trying to figure things out… Also, I aint dead yet, so my home town may just see me at the top someday… I just don’t think the way I had it mapped out in my head is anything close to how I see it now… Actually I don’t think I was the one who mapped out this very direct, simple dream… it was more likely mapped out for me with expectations from my family and friends… I’m glad they mapped it out this way for me because if I didn’t chase that single dream, I most probably wouldn’t be where I am at today…
#Dreams are wonderful things folks and I highly suggest chasing them… But please make sure the dream you have propped up in that head is what you really want… I realized the acting dream was not what I really wanted… My goals and needs were and are much larger than that… Now I feel my mission is way more noble and it would take way too long to explain on this blog… But no matter how large my #goal is and if I do achieve it or them all, I just may do a few roles here and there… If they are nice to me… lol… But as I said before, without my initial dream, I may have not discovered the larger picture… So that dream did serve a purpose even if I don’t feel I accomplished it… No regrets folks, just decisions that lead us to where we are now…
Enough of my #preaching… So, I basically got to bed around 10pm last night… There is a lot of side work after your shift…. If it was really busy, you can expect to be doing side work for at least an hour after… Sometimes we don’t get out of there until 10pm…
#Breakfast was really busy this morning… A lot of people coming up to ride their #DirtBikes and ATV’s… We open at 8am and there is usually a line outside… I feel like I am working at a night club for Christ’s sake… Damn, hicks love their breakfast!
I worked breakfast and lunch with a guy named John… He works for a few months out of the year and then lives the rest of the time in his cabin in a small town in Illinois… He basically makes enough to live off of for the whole year in one season… Not a bad life to live at 50 years of age… He brags how he is almost #OffTheGrid permanently… He eventually wants solar paneling so he can live a nice peaceful life with no unnecessary interruptions… He is a great musician and has played with some pretty big names… He prides himself on taking good old 70’s rock classics and adding a jazz spin to them… I heard some of his songs and was flabbergasted by how talented he is… He softly plucks each string with this meticulous respect for his instrument… At first you think he is playing too softly until you hear the song… The talent that slips by unnoticed in this world… I told John if he ever wants to pull out that guitar and play, he has a free one man audience to listen…
John worked with me until 2 and then Mike came down to do the night shift… The kitchen got a little pissy with me today… They informed me I was not using the right abbreviations… I took this a little to heart and responded with the fact I was only on my third day… But then I realized I wasn’t communicating right, swallowed my pride and worked on the abbreviations… By the night’s end, I was back in good favor with the #kitchen… I found working this occupation for 16 years that you need to get along with the kitchen and most cooks have egos… you are better off trying to work with them because if they decide they don’t like you, you could be in for some long, horrible shifts… The guys in the kitchen are rough around the edges but they all seem to take a lot of pride in their work… I can always relate to passion no matter how different you are from me… I love passion and will go out of my way to nurture and complement one who is driven by this great force…
So, itt was another successful day and night at #TaylorPark… That picture at the top is a picture of #MatchlessMountain… Oh yes folks, #TheTravelingMac has realized another destiny and it’s tackling that mountain! Every time I look out the back restaurant window I state “I’m going to sleep at the top of that #mountain!” I tell it to my customers, my fellow workers and anyone who will listen… I know if I put the #mission out there, I will do anything to accomplish it… All the locals look at me as if I am crazy when I mention my two day mission… They all wonder why I would want to stay up there… Wow! I couldn’t ask for more! A mission that is crazy and now expected of me! I really do think they believe I will puss out… Well, they obviously don’t know #TheTravelingMac… Doubt of others is the pure fuel I need because there is none of that in this mind, so you are just driving me closer to my goal…
Now, to find the time to hike it with an already busy schedule… I feel pretty much settled in now even though the #altitude is still messing with my mind and body…I’m glad I am doing all of these doubles because it takes my mind off of all these weird things my body is doing… Tomorrow will be my last double and then I will look into setting my schedule in these beautiful mountains… I may just move in with John who lives in his own two room cabin above the gift shop… The guys in my place tend to smoke a lot and party late… I want them to have their fun so I feel moving would be the better choice… I just hope they don’t think it has anything to do with them… I have just lived that lifestyle for too long and am over it… Peace and quiet are just a little more important to me these days…
See you tomorrow for another double folks… I hope my crazy life is entertaining some… I sure as hell know it’s entertaining the hell out of me! lol…
